Does the new home page rock?

Photo 12Yesterday we released a new version of the home page. We have created different tabs for our charts and community feed, plus we added numbers to the chart. In addition we made highlights in the cover flow bigger: now  highlights are more emotional and convey the message in a more effective way.
I think the changes improved the overall look&feel and make the home page sleeker and cleaner.  Do you agree?
Those changes were driven by customer insight efforts. Listening to users and observing what they click, like and don't like on the site is one of the primary activities for us.
I like to go thru customer emails. I read a lot of emails every day.

Here is an example of an happy user:

"I stumbled on this site during a regular web search and I love it!
....
I am basically a lover of music of any kind! Gospel is my ultimate
favorite, considering I'm a church singer, so I find some music here
that I love on this site....PLEASE KEEP ADDING MORE GOSPEL MUSIC!

I'm also a hip hop/80's nut, so I'll be using my tokens to get some
music from my childhood!"

But we also receive emails from unhappy users
Every email is important to us and we try to get something from anyone.
Stay tuned! More features to come

Record labels and our new MP3 service

Blogger: djmcohenAt the moment, the only MP3s that we have available for download are from Sony BMG. That is fantastic, as they have some amazing artists: from Leona Lewis to Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera to the Foo Fighters to Michael Jackson to Bruce Springsteen to Billy Joel to the newly victorious David Cook. But we all know that one record label is not enough - because not only do we want the Dada Music Store to be the best value out there, but also to have as wide a choice as possible. So we are in active discussions with all the other major record labels, as well as a bunch of independents. They are very excited by our new service and we are working hard together to close deals that will mean that we can quickly expand the range of artists and music that we have available for download. The music business is not known for being the fastest moving out there, but we expect to be able to make some exciting announcements soon, so watch this space...

The cat is out of the bag !!

Paolo Werbrouck, Director Product Innnovation and partime hacker Well ...  today the cat is out of the bag!!  The many months of work behind the scenes have finally payed off.

Our new site is out. The site features the best Sony BMG artists, each artist has an engaging personal space where you can listen to previews of the artists hits, become fans,  comment and create your very own playlists with their favorite music to share with your friend. We've worked hard to put you at the heart of the Music Movement,  Soon we will add more artists from other major and indie labels. And you can take your Dada.net music with you anywhere you like since it is completely DRM-free.

We spent many weeks  brainstorming, designing,  sometime many times over -- coding, optimizing, testing and having a lot of fun in process. Granted, a lot of work is still ahead, but we finally took the first step... and we let the cat out of the bag!!

And this is only the beginning. We have many ideas that are already working on for the immediate future which will make our Music Movement ever cooler and more engaging. So stay tuned.

We're rolling out the Movement in many new countries which will allow you to connect with people throughout the world that share your love for music .

Music is changing rapidly these days. Almost everyday you hear of new ways to enjoy and interact with your favorite artists and we are working very hard to help you stay on top of the game.

As part of the team that created the Movement it's been a very exciting time for me here at Dada Entertainment.   And there is room for more creative minds here to help forge the future of the Movement.  Why not join our team!? Come join the fun.

Webby Awards and the Open Social Network

The past week was very exciting for the Dada team. Not only did we get nominated for the Meffy awards in two categories (Communities & UGC and Off Deck Services), but we also won an Official Honoree for the Social Networking category in The 12th Annual Webby Awards, aka known as the Oscar of the Web

We are very proud to be selected as a Honoree for various reasons.
First and foremost, building a noteworthy social network in the US isn't the easiest of the challenges. The Official Honoree distinction is awarded to work that scores in the top 15% of all work entered into the Webby Awards.  With nearly 10,000 entries received from over 60 countries, this is an outstanding accomplishment for Dada.

The big question is…Why did we believe that another social network was needed? Well, a few reasons all condensed in one word: OPENESS
1) Open Access: the Dada.net social network is seamlessly accessible from all devices: PC, Smartphone and mobile phones. The main features of social networking- newsfeed, status change, upload of pictures and streaming of UGC videos are all available across all platforms. Take a look at wap.dada.net to judge for yourself. Dada.net was born on the mobile platform and developing a cutting-edge mobile interface was a no-brainer for us and a mind blogging experience for the thousands of users who every day access our services from the Mobile internet
2) Open Borders: unlike most social networks, Dada.net is an international social network and proud to be so. It is truly a global community- US, Brazil, Europe, and even China’s walls came tumbling down allowing people from all over the world to share their experience thoughts and feelings in one unique net
3) Open Experience: again going against the mainstream social networking experience, Dada.net chose to bring to the surface the Dating component incorporating a Love Space with free and premium dating features into each personal space. And the community "love" it.
4) Open Rewards: another decision that set Dada apart in the competitive landscape of UGC communities was that we decided to open the revenue streams from advertising to all users through the friend$ program, an ad sharing program based on AdSense that rewards users’ activity in the community (more friends, more content, more revenues). And, it was a huge success across all countries.

So much for the past! Major challenges and changes are still to come. So stay tuned. In the coming weeks, Dada.net is going to introduce a totally new dimension to your usual social networking.

A “mobile” panel in Sin City

Max
by Max
Just got back from CTIA in Vegas. I was on a panel talking about how the Mobile Channel plays a role in the Marketing mix, particularly in helping Viral growth.

The panel was interesting;Steven Masur was really a cool moderator. The main topics discussed were the future of carrier decks, the effectiveness of WAP campaigns compared with Text message campaigns, and of course various other key questions that are top of mind for most of Executives in the space.

I believe there is a general understanding on where the industry is heading, in terms of increasing adoption for txt messages and WAP campaigns as an effective marketing tool.

We covered a lot of interesting topics but I think though that we missed a major point about what is really successful in the mobile space as a marketing tool, which I was hoping to add as my final comment, but we ran out to time. There are three things that are really powerful in the mass-market: music, dating and gifting. Just look at Myspace and/or Facebook to validate this idea. That’s why I think that each product or campaign that is able to somehow combine these three main pieces together has very good chances to be successful.

Now back to NY to implement these ideas into the new dada.net  ...
